Where is U?
Sqecial Media has been a part of my Lexington life since high school. I could spend an entire day once upon a time browsing records at Bear’s Wax, picking out beads at Paisley Peacock, and combing the shelves at Sqecial.
Located at 371 South Limestone Street, right past Pazzo’s, Sqecial has the broadest selection of books that I have ever seen. You may go in thinking that you know what you’re looking for. If you want to get out quickly, stay focused! My recommendation though is to take time to browse the shelves to see what other topics grab your attention.
From the classics, to children’s books, cookbooks, books on the occult, sexual health, and examinations of art movements, Sqecial provides a liberal arts education right in their second story shop, packed from floor to ceiling with so much stuff, I can’t imagine taking inventory. But that’s the concrete side of me… Sqecial has the ability to encourage the abstract.
Sqecial isn’t just a book store. They also have fun kitsch. I bought my dad a glass with an exotic dancer on it for his birthday. Yes, I have those parents, thankfully 🙂 I’ve purchased buddhas, lucky pigs, scarves, and Chinese medicine balls. I’ve passed by mugs, wall hangings, and pillows just because I don’t have the room in my house to contain everything.
They also offer jewelry and a range of smoking pipes for your enjoyment. I used to buy clove cigarettes back in those high school days, but I’m sure from my opening paragraph, you could have guessed that.
I’ve also received great help from people who work here. Ask for recommendations and they can offer up ideas from the local writer to the more obscure.
Visit Sqecial as soon as you can. Let me know what you got and what you’ll be going back to get in the next month.
