West Sixth Brewing was one of the first microbreweries Lexingtonians got to enjoy. It sparked a revolution that has resulted in seemingly a new brewery opening every few months.
The beer ranges from low alcohol to high alcohol, light flavors to strong, chocolate to fruity, dark to light. If you’re new to the different types of beers, they have extremely knowledgeable bartenders that can help you decide, even offer you a taste so that you’re thirst is quenched.
Their flagship beers are the Amber, Cocoa Porter, IPA, Lemongrass Wheat, and Half-Bite IPA. For my tastes, the Amber is far my favorite but I’ll happily enjoy a Cocoa Porter for its rich flavors. There is a range of other offerings too, right now, if you so desire, enjoy the Christmas Ale. Personally it makes me think that I’ve just made out with a Christmas tree but don’t let me and my limited palate dissuade you.
West Sixth also sells great t-shirts that I’ve bought for relatives as well as mugs, glasses, hats, etc. Great place to get someone from out-of-town a some local memorabilia.
You can also grab a six-pack or a growler to take home. If you stay though, you can enjoy the scene as well as Smithtown Seafood or one of the many food trucks that frequent.
When you imbibe West Sixth, you’re helping the community. West Sixth supports local non-profits by donating a portion of their sales. They also hold monthly events where a portion of the sales goes to a different non-profit. We were there for the AVOL drive a few months ago. A great turnout for a great cause.
A symbiotic relationship has been formed by Smithtown Seafood and West Sixth Brewing down at the corner of West Sixth and Jefferson. It is one where you either go in for a beer and get enticed by the aromas of the seafood restaurant happily sharing the space or go in for the delicious seafood which then leads you to taking a seat and noticing your thirst for good beer. More on Smithtown at a later date.
Stop by West Sixth and grab a pint. Join the community for camaraderie and good. Local beer just tastes better <3
