What a lovely find!
Follow the twisting streets of the Belleau Woods neighborhood to be introduced to an 18-acre swath of greenspace and play areas. Belleau Woods Park has all of the necessities of a great space for Lexingtonians to utilize but the park was nearly empty when we got there. Granted we were here on a damp day where storms constantly threatened but it’s in the middle of a large neighborhood!
For kids, there are two separate play-sets surrounded by mulch. The smaller playground is for kids 2-12, the larger for 5-12. Lots of opportunity for sliding, climbing, and swinging for all ages.
There are lots of benches and a covered shelter area with two tables for those who need a rest. The trees provide lots of shade.
We didn’t venture out onto the almost-half-mile paved path that winds through the park but it appears well maintained and smooth.
There are areas for you to take some charcoal and have a nice picnic.
There are two tennis courts that are in disrepair but definitely not un-playable.
No bathrooms but frankly, I wouldn’t use them anyway (Kroger is just around the corner).
Playability: 8 (two structures that are maintained)
Can anyone tell me why this park is always empty?
